Workshops On Offer

All workshops are designed to be run at the Pump House Environment Centre, however with prior arrangement and site suitability it is possible to take some workshops out to schools/other sites.

Preschool and Nursery Workshops

Gold Star Robbie Rubbish

This workshop looks at what happens to waste, what we can do with waste and our impacts on the world specifically focusing on Worcestershire.  The process is acted out with a small recycling van; the children learn a recycling song and complete a sorting activity.  They also learn all about Robbie Rubbish’s life via a story.

Workshop lasts 30 minutes.
Cost: £35 per group (maximum 30 children).

Gold Star Tour of the Pump House Environment Centre Currently this workshop is not available but if you would like to visit the Pump House with a group then please do still contact us.

This includes a tour of the Pump House Environment Centre considering its previous use as a water pumping station and then the technologies and sustainable methods used in the redevelopment of the building to the Trust’s home as the Pump House Environment Centre in 2004.

Workshop lasts 45 minutes-1 hour.
Cost: £35 per class (maximum 30 children).

This includes a tour of the Pump House Environment Centre considering its previous use as water pumping station and then considering the technologies and sustainable methods used in the redevelopment of the building in 2004 to turn the building into the Trust’s home as the Pump House Environment Centre.

To accompany the tour of the centre we provide age appropriate worksheets which follow the Trust’s three main areas of waste, water and energy.

Workshop lasts 1- 1.5 hours.
Cost: £40 per class (maximum 30 children).

Gold Star Sort It!

This workshop looks at what happens to waste, what we can do with waste and our impacts on the world specifically focusing on Worcestershire.

Workshop lasts 45 minutes-1 hour.
Cost: £35 per class (maximum 30 children).

Gold Star Scrap It!

Using materials from WRE (Worcestershire Resource Exchange) to create art/craft work, this can be based around a theme e.g. Christmas, Easter etc. the possibilities will vary depending on WRE stock.

Workshop lasts 1-1.5 hours.
Cost: £35 per class (maximum 30 children).  There is an additional charge of £13.50 for this workshop to cover the cost of materials.

Gold Star Food Miles

This workshop is designed encourage the children to think about where their food has come from and what harm could be caused to the environment.  Using this information the children then create their own pizza (not edible) and work out its food miles.

Workshop lasts 45 minutes -1 hour.
Cost: £35 per class (maximum 30 children).

This workshop focuses on the packaging used for products and gets the children to analyse the packaging design and then recreate it so that it considers the environment more.

Pupils using bug boxes are given the opportunity to harmlessly catch and observe some of the many minibeasts. Children learn how to use the equipment and get hands on experience including identification of the minibeasts. Depending on the site being used this can be affected by flooding.

Cost: £35 per class (maximum 30 children).
