Choose Cycling rides start again in October!

On 16th October the  regular monthly rides around Worcestershire will start again.

They are led rides mainly using quiet roads and cycle paths. No one gets left behind as we ride to the pace of the slowest rider. For more details check out the choose cycling website or Choose Cycling on Facebook.

Apple Pressing Days

Transition Worcester have organised Apple Pressing Days in and around the city during September, October and November.

Perfect if you have a glut of fruit from the trees in your garden.All you need to take with you is the fruit and bottles and you’ll leave with your own pressed juice!

With more than a month left of summer, looking forward to autumn needn’t drive us to despair. As the days draw in and the leaves begin to turn, think of bonfires on crisp afternoons and working in the forest in fall. Now that we’re feeling suitably optimistic, here are next season’s volunteer projects…

Wednesday 21st – Lyppard Grange S.S.S.I site, Warndon: Management of great crested newt habitat, pond clearance and vegetation management.

Wednesday 28th – Lusty Glaze, Worcester: Brash burning and vegetation management.

October

Wednesday 5th – Chapter Meadows, Worcester: Drainage ditch maintenance, brash burning, vegetation management.

Wednesday 12th – Nunnery Wood Primary School: Seat construction, grounds improvement and vegetation management.

Wednesday 19th – No volunteer task (Due to other staff commitments).

Wednesday 26th – Amestry Wood, Claphill Lane, Rushwick: Coppice management.

November

10.30-11.30am   (This is dependant on us recieving more rainfall in the next few weeks as our pond level is currently to low) £2 per child

All activities except for the 17th August need booking onto .To Book ring Laura on  01905 734980 or email education@dwt.org.uk.  Please note that until you have had confirmation your place isn’t booked. Payment is taken for activities on the day and we ask that if you are unable to attend you ring by 8am so that we can offer the places to other people.

Children must be accompanied by an adult and we ask that suitable clothing is worn.

Proms in the Park- evening event at the Pump House

The Pump House will be opening until 8pm on Friday 8th July to celebrate the Schools Proms in Gheluvelt Park. We also have the added enjoyment of participating school quartets playing downstairs in the cafe area.

We look forward to seeing you there and have a great week enjoying the Schools Proms in the Park from 10am every day.

Summer 2011 Volunteer Tasks

Hi all, I should start by introducing myself; I’m Alastair and this week I joined the Trust’s environmental warden team. It’s a huge pleasure to be involved in such good work with a great group of people. I was fortunate to meet many of you on our recent vegetation management day with Worcester City Council and I look forward to meeting the rest of you over the coming weeks. Now with summer hopefully about to kick into full swing, there’s a busy season of work ahead of us and below you’ll find a list of projects taking us from June through to August 2011. If you’re not familiar with the new(ish) booking system yet, please have a read and follow the instructions so that we can get as many of you as possible out to each conservation day.

IF YOU ARE AN EXISTING VOLUNTEER

Please leave a message on 01905 730602 to confirm your attendance and whether you require a vehicle space if you wish to join the Trust on any of these tasks before Tuesday 8.00am.

IF YOU ARE A NEW VOLUNTEER HOPING TO JOIN THE TRUST AS A CONSERVATION VOLUNTEER (ON A WEDNESDAY)

Please contact Anda Phillips, our Volunteer and Community Co-ordinator, on 01905 730601 or email her at volunteer@dwt.org.uk at least a week before the Wednesday you wish to come out volunteering. This is so that she can arrange for you to have a volunteer induction and confirm availability.

Please bring appropriate footwear, warm/waterproof clothing, a packed lunch and any cold drinks that you may want. Hot drinks and biscuits will be provided. All tools and safety equipment are supplied by the Trust.

Wednesday 10th – Tom Shell Coppice, Nr. Abberley: Scrub clearance morning followed by green woodworking session afternoon. This special event is a “thankyou” for all your hard work!

Wednesday 17th – Hipton Hill Orchard, Evesham: Orchard restoration (plum tree pruning and fruit harvest) – be prepared to eat a lot of fruit and take some home!

Wednesday 24th – No volunteer task (DWT wardens away)

Wednesday 31st – St. George’s Catholic Primary School (Thorneloe Walk, Barbourne, Worcester, WR1 3JY) : Maintenance and improvement of school gardens – BBQ provided!
